Narration Rules in Bangla
Narrate অর্থ বর্ণনা করা। কোন বক্তার বক্তব্য অপর কোন ব্যক্তি যখন Narrate বা বর্ণনা করে তখন ব্যকরনের কতকগুলি নিয়ম কানুন মানিয়া তাহা করিতে হয়। এইরুপ বর্ণনা করার কাজকেই Narration বলে হয়। অর্থাৎ বক্তা যাহা বলে তাহাই Speech বা Narration.
Narration দুই প্রকার। যথাঃ
Direct Narration (প্রত্যক্ষ উক্তি)
যে উক্তিতে বক্তার কথা অবিকল (হুবহু) উদবৃত করা থাকে, তাহাকে Direct Narration বা Direct Speech বলে। Direct Narration Inverted Comma (" ") এর মধ্যে রাখিতে হয়। যথাঃ
He said, "I am ill"
Indirect Narration (পরোক্ষ উক্তি)
যখন কোন বক্তার কথা নিজের ভাষায় বলা হয়, তখন তাহাকে Indirect Narration বা Indirect Speech বলে। যথাঃ
He said that he was ill.

Inverted Comma - এর বাহিরে যে Verb থাকে, তাহার নাম Reporting Verb . এখানে 'Said' Verb টি হলো Reporting Verb এবং Inverted Comma (" "). এর মধ্যে যে বাক্যটি থাকে, তাহার নাম Reported Speech অর্থাৎ "I am ill" বাক্যটি Reported Speech.
আবার, Inverted Comma (ইনভারটেড কমা) - এর বাহিরে যে বাক্য থাকে, তাহার প্রথম শব্দটির নাম Subject (কর্তা) এবং Reporting Verb - এর পরে যে Noun বা Pronoun থাকে, তাহার নাম Object (কর্ম)। যথাঃ
Tense Change in Narration
Note: Direct Speech এ Reporting verb যদি Present ও Future tense হয়, তাহলে indirect speech এ Reporting speech এর verb এর কোন পরিবর্তন হয় না।
Example:
- Direct speech: Rk Raihan says, ‘ I will come to the party.
- Indirect speech: Rk Raihan says that he will come to the party.
Reporting verb past tense হলে Indirect speech এর Reporting speech অনুরূপ past tense হয়।
নিম্নে উদাহরণসহ উল্লেখ করা হলো।

Narration Exceptional Rules In Bangla
1. Direct narration এর Report speech যদি universal truth, historical fact, quotation, proverbs হয় তাহলে Reporting verb past tense হওয়া স্বত্বেও Reporting speech এর কোন পরিবর্তন হবে না।
- Direct: The teacher said, A little learning is a dengerous think of nature.
- Indirect: The teacher said that a little learning is a dengerous think of nature.
2. Direct Narration এ Reported speech এ must থাকলে তা Indirect narration এ পরিবর্তন হয়ে ‘had to’ হয়।
- Direct: Yunus said, I must go to Dhaka.
- Indirect: Yunus said that he had to go to Dhaka.
3. Direct speech/Narration এ Reporting speech মুল verb এর পূর্বে can ও may থাকলে তা Indirect Narration এ পরিবর্তন হয়ে Could ও might হবে।
- Direct: Rizvi said, “he can swim smoothly”.
- Indirect: Rizvi said that he could swim smoothly.
- Direct: “The meeting may end early”, Toma said.
- Indirect: Toma said that the meeting might end early.
Narration Person Change Rule | Person এর পরিবর্তন
1. Reporting speech এ 1st person (I, we, me, my, us, our, mine, ours) ব্যবহৃত হলে তা সর্বদা Reporting verb এর Subject অনুযায়ী পরিবর্তন হয়।
Example
- Direct: He said to me, ” I am playing cricket now.
- Indirect: He said to me that he was playing cricket then.
Note: direct থেকে indirect করার সময় Now পরিবর্তন হয়ে Than হয়।
এখানে উদাহরণ লক্ষ্য করলে দেখতে পারবে Direct narration reported speech এর “I” Indirect narration এ পরিবর্তন হয়ে He হয়েছে।
2. Reporting speech এ 2nd person (you, your, yours) ব্যবহৃত হলে তা সর্বদা Reporting verb এর Object অনুযায়ী পরিবর্তন হয়।
Example
- Direct: He said to me, you have read the book
- Indirect: He said to me that I had read the book.
Note: me এর subjective form “I”
3. Reporting speech এ 3rd person (he, shy, they, him, her, them, his, their) ব্যবহৃত হলে তা সর্বদা Reporting verb এর Object অনুযায়ী পরিবর্তন হয়।
Example
- Direct: Rabbi said to me, They has gone to Cox’s’ Bazar.
- Indirect: Rabbi said to me that they had gone to Cox’s Bazar.

Sentence এর Narration পরিবর্তন
বক্তার যে কোন উক্তি পাঁচ প্রকার বাক্যে সীমাবদ্ধ। অর্থাৎ, পাঁচ প্রকার প্রকাশভঙ্গীতে বাক্য গঠিত হয়।

Assertive Sentence Narration Bangla
1. Reporting verb say/says/said থাকলে এবং object না থাকলে direct থেকে indirect করার সময় assertive এ তা অপরিবর্তিত থাকে।
Example
- Direct: Shamim says, He was ill.
- Indirect: Shamim says that he was ill.
2. Reporting verb say to/says to/said to থাকলে এবং object থাকলে direct থেকে indirect করার সময় assertive এ তা পরিবর্তিত হয়ে tell/told ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Example
- Direct: Shamim said to me, He is ill.
- Indirect: Shamim told to me that he was ill.
Narration interrogative sentence bangla
1. Reporting speech Integrative বা প্রশ্ন বোধক বাক্য হলে Direct Narration থেকে Indirect narration করার সময় Reporting verb হিসাবে ask/asked ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Example
- Direct: Niha said to me, ” Why are you comeing?
- Indirect: Niha asked me Why he was comeing.
2. Interrogative sentence এ Reporting speech যদি auxiliary Verb দিয়ে আরম্ভ হয় তাহলে indrect করার সময় Reporting speech এর পূর্বে if দিয়ে আরম্ভ করতে হবে।
Example
- Direct: Niha said to me, Are you coming home.
- Indirect: Niha asked me if I was coming home.
Wh Word Narration Change
আর যদি Interrogative sentence এ Reporting speech যদি WH word দিয়ে আরম্ভ হয় তাহলে indrect করার সময় Reporting speech এর পূর্বে একই word দিয়ে আরম্ভ করতে হবে। (If any sentence is started with wh question,in that cases at the time of changing indirect speech “WH word” will be placed in the first of reported speech.)
Example
- Direct: Niha said to me, ” Why are you coming?
- Indirect: Niha asked me Why he was coming.
Imperative Sentence Narration Change Rules
1. Direct এর Reporting speech ভাব অনুযায়ী Indirect Reporting verb বসে।
- অনুরোধে বুঝালে- Request
- আদেশ ও নিষেধ বুঝালে – Order
- উপদেশ বুঝালে – Advice
Imperative sentence এ indirect এ reporting speech ‘to’ দিয়ে শুরু করতে হয়।
Example
- Direct: The teacher said to me, ” Always tell truth.
- Indirect: The teacher advice me to tell truth always.
- Direct: Ramim said to me, ” Don’t tell lie.
- Indirect: Ramim ordered me not to tell lie.
Note: Reporting speech Negative হলে Reporting verb পরে not to বসে।
Optative Sentence Narration Bangla নিয়ম
1. Inverted comma পরিবর্তে that বসে।
2. Direct থেকে indirect করার সময় optative sentence এর ক্ষেত্রে Reporting verb হিসাবে wish বা pray ব্যবহৃত হয়।
3. May এর পরিবর্তে Subject পর reporting speech এ might হবে।
Example
- Direct: My mother said to me, May Allah help you.
- Indirect: My mother wished me that Allah might help me.
Exclamatory Sentence Narration Change Bangla নিয়ম
Direct speech এ Reporting speech এ আনন্দ, দুঃখ বুঝালে Indirect speech এ reporting verb exclaim with joy ও exclaim with sorrow ব্যবহৃত হয় আর Inverted comma পরিবর্তে that বসে।
Example
Direct: Asif said, “Alas! He is no more.”
Indirect: Asif exclaimed with sorrow that he was no more.
